The West Virginia University Foundation, in cooperation with the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, is encouraging supporters of the University to become organ, eye and tissue donors.

As part of National Donate Life Month, all outgoing WVU Foundation gift receipts during April are including a Center for Organ Recovery & Education brochure and a Foundation Post-it note that reads: “The WVU Foundation and the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center encourage our donors to become organ, eye and tissue donors.”

“With April being National Donate Life Month, the WVU Foundation wants to remind our donors that the most precious gift they could possibly give is the gift of life,” said R. Wayne King, Foundation president & CEO. “A single organ, eye and/or tissue donor has the power to save up to eight lives and heal more than fifty others.”

CORE serves as the link between those who donate and patients awaiting organ, tissue and corneas for transplant. Since 1977, CORE has coordinated more than 300,000 organ and tissue transplants for patients in the region.

The WVU Foundation is a private, non-profit corporation charted in 1954 to secure, hold and administer funds and properties given by individuals, corporation and philanthropic foundations in support of WVU.
