West Virginia University’s deputy general counsel, Mary Roberta “Bobbie” Brandt, has been named American with Disabilities Act compliance officer, Executive Officer for Social Justice Jennifer McIntosh announced this week.

Brandt will assume the responsibilities of ADA accommodations, training and assisting with investigations.

“I am thrilled to welcome Bobbie to our office where her leadership and knowledge in the compliance area will be a huge assist to the University,” McIntosh said.

William H. Hutchens, WVU’s new general counsel and vice president for legal affairs, added: “I want to thank Bobbie for her dedication and commitment to WVU and this office and wish her well in her new role. This is a very positive step for the University and for Bobbie personally. She has a special talent and niche in this important area.”

Brandt has worked in WVU’s legal office for 12 years, most recently as interim general counsel and vice president for legal affairs.

She was also senior assistant attorney general for the West Virginia State College and University Systems and clerked for the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and for the U.S. Department of Justice/Office of the U.S. Attorney General for the Northern District.

Brandt is a graduate of WVU’s College of Law and received her undergraduate degree in history from George Mason University. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the West Virginia State Bar Association and the Monongalia County Bar Association.

She is married to Tim Marton, a retired WVU administrator.

The appointment is effective April 26.
