Students at West Virginia University can celebrate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day this Thursday (April 22) by listening to acoustic performances from local musicians from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the Mountainlair Green.

The WVU Young Democrats, WELL WVU, the WVU Office of Sustainability and the WVU recycling program have teamed up to promote environmental awareness and sustainability on campus.

The event will feature artists from local bands The Greens, One Hundred Hurricanes and The Emperors.

A “Sustainability Fair” will be set up around the Mountainlair Green. Student groups and other organizations wll present informational materials and displays about clean energy and environmental issues.

Booths representing the following groups will be present: WEGO, Positive Spin, Student Sierra Coalition, Municipal Green Team, Mon County Solid Waste Authority, American Fisheries Society, Horticulture Club, Mountaineer Cycling, SGA, Sigma Kappa, Society of Environmental Professionals and Wildlife Society.

Free reusable water bottle and t-shirts will be given out. There will also be an auction for a bicycle.

The event is free.
