Jeffrey Lacker is enthusiastic about engaging with students at West Virginia University during an upcoming visit to Morgantown by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. And while this swing through West Virginia will include meetings and events with economists, the banking community and economic development officials, Lacker will take off his jacket, roll up his sleeves and speak directly with students.

Lacker, the president of the Richmond Fed, will wrap three days of activities when he speaks on “Economics, Policy and Politics” to WVU students on Wednesday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at the Gluck Theatre at the Mountainlair.

“WVU students will have a unique opportunity to interact with Jeffrey Lacker during his visit to Morgantown about important economic issues,” said Dr. Tom Witt, associate dean for research and outreach and director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at WVU’s College of Business and Economics. “Dr. Lacker’s perspectives on the current economic recovery and recent monetary policy decisions will enable students to connect their economics lectures and books with a Fed bank president who was an active member of the Federal Open Market Committee in 2009.”

The Richmond Fed is part of the nation’s central bank and, in that role, sets monetary policy, supervises and regulates member financial institutions and provides a number of financial services. Lacker, who has served as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond since August 2004, has kept a close eye on the signs of economic recovery. Those signs are expected to be of great interest to students across all majors.

WVU’s accounting undergraduate and graduate students will hear from the Richmond Fed’s Elaine Yancey from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Ming Hsieh Hall, room 126 earlier that morning. Yancey will lead discussions with students on issues including fraud trends and forensic investigations and the supervision, regulation and credit functions of the Federal Reserve Bank, as well as topics relating to current economic conditions.

The Richmond Fed is one of 12 reserve banks that comprises the Federal Reserve System, and has office locations in Richmond, Baltimore and Charlotte. Regions that are covered by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond include Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, the District of Columbia and most of West Virginia.
