WHO: Approximately 80 West Virginia University Army ROTC students will be joining Army ROTC students from West Virginia State University, Marshall University and James Madison University.

WHAT: The students will be participating in a variety of combat training exercises involving day/night land navigation, patrolling, squad scenario tactical exercises and weapons ranges.

WHEN: Friday, April 9 at 10:30 a.m. until Sunday, April 11 at 9 a.m.

WHERE: Camp Dawson, a West Virginia Army National Guard Training Site Command, located in Kingwood. Members of the media are asked to meet in the parking lot of Camp Dawson to be escorted to the training site.

CREDENTIAL INFORMATION: All members of the media that plan on attending will need to contact Major J. Mark Hennigan with the WVU Army ROTC program prior to Friday. He can be reached at 304-685-7766, or by e-mail at mark.hennigan@mail.wvu.edu. Anyone planning on attending must provide Hennigan with their name, vehicle type and license plate number.

BACKGROUND: WVU’s Army ROTC program provides individuals with the tools, training and experiences they need to become officers in the U.S. Army. There are approximately 250 students currently enrolled in the program. In 2007-08 WVU’s Army ROTC program was recognized as the best program in the Eastern Region of the United States and in turn was awarded the General Douglas MacArthur Award.
