The 30th anniversary celebration for the Women’s Studies Program continues in April with three more events.

The Center will first celebrate the accomplishments of its best and brightest at its annual Honors and Awards Ceremony on April 10. This event will be hosted at the Erickson Alumni Center from 3-5 p.m.

The next event in the series will be a lecture on “Rituals in the Lives of Native American Girls and Women,” given by Carol Markstrom, Cari Carpenter and Ellesa High on April 14 from noon to 1:30 p.m., in the Greenbrier Room of the Mountainlair. The presenters will discuss the profound effects of rituals on the lives and self-identities of women in Native American society. Also in attendance will be the 2010 Native American Studies Program’s elder-in-residence, Suzan Shown Harjo.

Benjamin Myers will host the final event in April. His lecture “Sliding Backwards: Science Rhetoric and the Gender Debate,” will be held in the Greenbrier Room of the Mountainlair on April 22, from 4-5 p.m. Myers will discuss the bias inherent in the rhetoric used in scientific studies through several feminist perspectives.

Each event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ann Oberhauser, director of the Center for Women’s Studies, at (304) 293-2249 or Ann.Oberhauser@mail.wvu.edu.
