The West Virginia University School of Nursing is honoring nurses who live or work in Monongalia County on Thur., March 25 with a reception at the Erickson Alumni Center. Dean Georgia Narsavage, Ph.D., R.N., is hosting the event as part of the 50th anniversary of the school.

“We want to honor nurses who live or work here because of their importance to Monongalia County. We are celebrating their contributions to the community,” Narsavage said. “Nurses are a key part of health care. They have the most contact with patients—they’re with them 24/7.”

All nurses are invited to the event, which includes a cocktail reception and buffet. To accommodate the various shifts nurses work, they are welcome anytime from 4:30-7:30 p.m. as their schedules permit. Work attire or business casual is appropriate. Narsavage and nursing vice presidents from WVU Hospitals and Monongalia General Hospital will speak at 5 p.m.

The event is free, and is being sponsored by Centra Bank. To RSVP, please call or e-mail Misti Michael at mmmichael@hsc.wvu.edu, 304-293-6521.

The 50th Anniversary Celebration is being marked with events throughout the year.

Over the course of 50 years, more than 5,000 students have graduated from the WVU School of Nursing. They are making an impact on health care through nursing practice, teaching, and research. More than 2800 School of Nursing alumni are practicing in West Virginia. More than half of all faculty teaching in schools of nursing in the state have at least one degree from the WVU School of Nursing.
