The West Virginia University men’s basketball team is headed to the Sweet Sixteen in Syracuse, N.Y., and fans traveling north for the game are invited to a pre-game pep rally and tailgate party on Thursday, March 25, 2010.

The event, hosted by the WVU Alumni Association, Mountaineer Athletic Club and WVU Foundation University Fund will take place at the Embassy Suites Syracuse Atrium from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The Embassy Suites Syracuse is located at 6646 Old Collamer Rd. in Syracuse.

“Our alumni and fans are enjoying the sweet victories over the past few months and are ready to cheer the Mountaineers to victory over Washington,” said Steve Douglas, president of the WVU Alumni Association. “We are very fortunate to have a strong presence of alumni in the northeast and we anticipate many being on hand for the games this week. Our team and coaches deserve our support, and we look forward to seeing everyone in Syracuse for the game.”

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature appearances by the Mountaineer, cheerleaders, WVU Pep Band, complimentary snacks and a cash bar.

Hundreds of WVU alumni and friends are expected to be on hand for the Mountaineers’ Sweet Sixteen appearance against Washington which is scheduled for a 7:27 p.m. tipoff.
