(NOTE: This version has been updated to include Rascoe’s major)

A 20-year-old West Virginia University student from Hagerstown, Md., died early Saturday from injuries sustained when he fell from a moving car in the Mountainlair Student Union parking garage.

Sean Kyrie Rascoe, a general studies major, died from head trauma received when he fell off a vehicle being driven by another student, Jeffrey Scott Rifkin, 21, of Oakton, Va., University Police Lt. Sherry St. Clair said. The incident occurred between 1 and 1:15 a.m., after Rascoe, Rifkin and others returned to their car parked in at the Mountainlair, St. Clair said.

“Our deepest sympathies are with the Rascoe family and friends right now,” said Kim Mosby, assistant dean of student life. “We are in contact with the family to assist in any way the University can in this tragic time.”

Mosby said counselors with the University’s Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services are available for students or friends who wish to contact them at 304-293-4431.

Rifkin was charged with driving under the influence, St. Clair said.
