West Virginia University’s Coronary Artery Risk Detection in Appalachian Communities celebration scheduled to take place in Boone County on Friday, Feb. 26 has been postponed because of weather conditions. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

The event was to be a celebration of the screening of 100,000 West Virginia school children through the CARDIAC Project, a chronic disease risk surveillance and intervention initiative designed to combat the unacceptably high prevalence of heart disease and diabetes in West Virginia.

Initiated in 1998, the CARDIAC Project was established as a means of reversing an unacceptable risk of cardiovascular disease in West Virginia children and families. The very first screening took place at Sherman Elementary in Comfort, located in Boone County.
