West Virginia University will help do their part in making the world a better place by holding the oneSHIRT Clothing Drive, in partnership with local community organizations, Feb. 22-26.

Boxes for the clothing drive will be placed in Arnold, Bennett, Braxton, Fieldcrest, Honors, Lincoln, Pierpont and Summit residence halls on WVU’s campus. Clothing donations will also be accepted at so.zo, located at 473 High Street. Students and community members are asked to place any articles of clothing that they are no longer using into the box.

The clothing will then be donated to Goodwill Industries International, Inc. where it will be sorted and distributed to those in need.

“I think it is important for people to understand that we, as Americans, have more than we need and more than most people in the world. The simple act of giving something of ourselves that we probably won’t miss can change someone’s life. The sweater your grandmother gave you that you hate, can make a difference in someone’s life,” said Nicki Carpenter, campus minister for WVU’s Canterbury Christian Fellowship student group under the Coalition for Christian Outreach.

The clothing drive is part of a larger campaign called Another World is Possible, which is being recognized during the week of Feb. 22-26. During the week, a variety of speakers will be presenting about social justice issues around the Morgantown community. A full list of events is available at http://possibleworld.org .

“The focus will be on human dignity and the value of human life,” said Trey Dunham, WVU alumnus and campus pastor for Chestnut Ridge Church in Morgantown. “While we were talking about all the things wrong in the world, we thought it would be good if we could do something to make the world a little better place.”

The clothing drive is sponsored by WVU’s Office of Sustainability, residence halls, Student Government Association, WVU recycling program, Facilities and Services, Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design’s Division of Design and Merchandising, Campus Crusade for Christ, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, Baptist Campus Ministry, St. John’s Church’s Newman Club, Canterbury Christian Fellowship, Chestnut Ridge Church’s 17three, Another World is Possible, SustainU clothing and apparel, Sign Factory and Goodwill Industries International, Inc.
