A West Virginia University professor has been elected president of the national University Council of Industrial Relations and Human Resources Programs.

Jeff Houghton, associate professor of industrial relations at the College of Business and Economics, will serve for two years.

The Atlanta-based UCIRHRP is composed of program directors of the top industrial relations and human resources programs from around the country.

“I was quite honored that my colleagues on the council had confidence in my abilities to lead the organization for the next two years, and I believe that this will be great exposure for WVU and our Master of Science in Industrial Relations program,” Dr. Houghton said.

Prior to joining WVU in 2007, Houghton was an associate professor and researcher-in-residence for Abilene Christian University where he also served as faculty-in-residence at ACU’s campuses in Montevideo, Uruguay and Oxford, England. Previously he had been chairperson of the management department at Lipscomb University.

Houghton received a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, an MBA from WVU and a bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State University. He coordinates the Master of Science in Industrial Relations program at WVU and his research on leadership, self-leadership and personality and individual differences has been published in numerous academic journals.
