Scott Beard, nationally recognized pianist, teacher, clinician, author and recording artist, will present “The Music of Fr�d�ric Chopin and Theodor Leschetizky,” as a Music Teachers National Association guest artist at WVU.

His recital is set for Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall at the CAC.

Beard concerts have been praised for their poetry, passion and innovative programming.

In keeping with these praises, Beard will treat the Morgantown audience to four works by Theodor Leschetizky, including “Mazurka, Op. 24, No. 1,” “Impromptu, Op. 2, No. 1,” “Souvenir d’Ischl, Op. 35” and “Ballade Venitienne, Op. 39, No. 1.”

He will also perform seven works by Fr�d�ric Chopin, including “Mazurka, Op. 30 No. 4,” “Nocturne, Op. 27, No. 1,” “Impromptu, Op. 29,” “Waltz, Op. 69, No. 1,” “Scherzo, Op 39,” “Berceuse, Op. 57” and “Polonaise, Op. 53.”

Beard is currently professor of music and coordinator of keyboard studies at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va. He is also the associate artistic director of the Opera Camerata of Washington in Washington, D.C.

Recognized for his outstanding teaching abilities, Beard was named 2006 West Virginia Music Teacher of the Year. He was also a finalist for the West Virginia Professor of the Year in 2009.

His students have been top prize winners in competitions at the state, regional, national and international level.

Beard has performed as a chamber musician and orchestral soloist throughout the United States, France, Italy, Croatia and Canada.
His most recent appearances have included the Weill Recital Hall, the Tenri Cultural Institute, the Russian Cultural Institute, the Polish, Belgian and Danish embassies and numerous universities along the east coast.
