West Virginia University will show a film on the rebellion that occurred on the Spanish slave ship “Amistad” in honor of Black History Month on Thursday (Feb. 11).

The Brown Bag Lunch Film and Discussion Series will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre in the Mountainlair.

“Amistad,” directed by Steven Spielberg with Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins, was released in 1997. The film recounts the trial that followed the 1839 rebellion aboard the Spanish slave ship “Amistad” and its complex political implications.

The film and discussion will be presented by Chelsea Fuller, president of WVU’s Black Student Union.

The event, sponsored by WVU’s Office of Student Life-Multicultural Programs, is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided first-come, first-serve.
