In anticipation of severe weather, West Virginia University officials dismissed all classes at 1 p.m. Friday (Feb. 5), but the University remains open. Saturday classes are also canceled.
All classes and activities will resume Monday, unless weather conditions dictate otherwise.
Several University-related events have also been canceled, rescheduled or scaled back. Check with organizers and/or monitor WVUToday.wvu.edu for the latest. Here is a partial list:
The Alumni Association has canceled the Academy of Distinguished Alumni event scheduled Friday evening at The Erickson Alumni Center to recognize George B. Bennett, Addison Fischer and Don Knotts.
“We are disappointed that we will not be able to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of these extraordinary men with the many guests who were to be with us this evening,” said Steve Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “After much discussion, we felt it was the right thing to do. We certainly do not want anyone taking unnecessary risks to be here.”

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences has canceled its Certificate of Achievement ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6. The event will not be rescheduled. Check eberly.wvu.edu regularly for up-to-the-minute information about further cancellations.
Friday and Saturday evening’s performances of the opera “Summer and Smoke” at the Creative Arts Center have been canceled, but an additional performance has been added for Monday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m., at which Friday and Saturday will be honored. The Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices will close at 1 p.m. today. The ticket phone line, 304-293-SHOW, will remain open until 6 p.m. today. Garrison Keillor’s sold-out show for Sunday evening will continue as scheduled.
“WVUp All Night,” WVU’s regular weekend student event, is canceled, but the Mountainlair Student Union will remain open with limited food services. Currently, the Saturday schedule remains in place.
The Visitors Resource Center will be closed Saturday, Feb. 6. Scheduled tours for Saturday are canceled. For more information, contact 293-3489.
Students and employees should use good judgment when traveling in inclement weather, said Narvel Weese, vice president for administration and finance.
The WVU Libraries and Student Recreation Center will remain open, and the Personal Rapid Transit and/or buses will be operating.
Employees are to report to work as scheduled or requested. If weather conditions prevent employees from getting to work or getting to work on time, they should notify their supervisor as soon as possible and prior to the start of the shift.
Supervisors are asked to work with employees who feel they need to leave work early due to the weather conditions. Employees who do not work their full scheduled shift may take annual leave, compensatory time off or, at the supervisor’s discretion, may be permitted to make up those hours. Any questions about scheduling issues should be addressed to an employee’s supervisor. Employees with further questions should call 304-293-5700, ext 5.
