West Virginia University will show a film on the Haitian Revolution in honor of Black History Month on Thursday (Feb. 4).

The Brown Bag Lunch Film and Discussion Series will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gluck Theatre in the Mountainlair.

“Toussaint Louverture and the Haitian Revolution,” directed by Noland Walker, was released in 2009. The Public Broadcasting Service documentary tells the true story of the most successful slave uprising in world history under the leadership of Toussaint Louverture, an ex-slave who became general. The film is narrated by Haitian author Edwidge Danticat.

The film and discussion will be presented by Todd McFadden, associate director of the WVU Center for Black Culture and Research.

The event, sponsored by WVU’s Office of Student Life-Multicultural Programs, is free and open to the public. Pizza will be provided first-come, first-serve.
