The WVU Department of Transportation & Parking and Sunnyside Up are joining efforts to encourage students to leave their cars at home by placing a WE Car in the Sunnyside neighborhood.

WE Car, a short-term rental car available for hourly use, is one of multiple forms of transportation offered to WVU as part of the WE GO! campaign, which promotes the use of alternative transportation in and around Morgantown.

The Sunnyside WE Car is located in WVU parking area short-term 5, located at First and Grant Streets across from Honors Hall. This vehicle is funded by the Sunnyside Up-Campus Neighborhoods Revitalization Corp. and is specifically placed to target residents of the Sunnyside area.

Students are encouraged to use walking, biking, the Mountain Line, carpooling and the PRT to get around campus and the community, and borrowing a car for an hour or several hours makes the WE Car another great option.

“For those places that are not reachable by foot, bus or PRT, there is the WE Car,” said Caitlin Shrift, marketing coordinator for WVU Transportation & Parking.

WE Car, which launched at the beginning of the ‘09-’10 school year, now has five cars on WVU’s campus.

The cars are hybrid and using them is easy, just register on-line at: http://transportation.wvu.edu/wego/we_car.

WE Car also has a great promotional deal going on right now. Until Feb. 28, WE Car will give anyone who registers a free $25 driving credit.

A registration table will be located beside the new Sunnyside WE Car from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 4. Those who sign up may receive a Sunnyside t-shirt or other promotional items.

In addition, students, staff, and faculty can also sign up for free Zimride carpool matching software at the table.

“Sunnyside Up is happy to partner with the WE Car promotion since more efficient types of transportation make living in the Sunnyside neighborhood convenient and sustainable,” said Jim Hunt, executive director of Sunnyside Up.
