A unique public affairs mobile unit made its way to Morgantown on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
In its 16th year on the road, the C-SPAN Civics Bus is a multimedia demonstration center and TV production unit that travels the country visiting schools and communities, producing programs and bringing the world of public affairs to life.
The bus visited West Virginia University on its national tour and park on Maiden Lane behind the Mountainlair from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Members of the WVU community and general public had the opportunity to learn about C-SPAN’s public affairs programming; engage in dialogue about the media, upcoming elections and American government; learn about C-SPAN Classroom (a free resource for school teachers); and gather information about interning in C-SPAN’s D.C. office.
C-SPAN also conducted short interviews with WVU professors about their new books for its “Book TV” programming. The two faculty members who were interviewed were Daniel Shapiro, author of “Is the Welfare State Justified?”; and Professor John Temple, author of “The Last Lawyer: The Fight to Save Death Row Inmates.”
“I spent four years shadowing attorneys defending a death row inmate in North Carolina,” said Professor John Temple, associate dean of the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism about his book “The Last Lawyer: The Fight to Save Death Row Inmates.” “For WVU students, this was a great opportunity to learn more about the issues, stories and people their professors are studying and writing about.”
C-SPAN programs three public affairs television networks; C-SPAN Radio, a Washington, D.C. radio station distributed nationally by XM Satellite Radio; and a video-rich Web site. C-SPAN is currently available in over 95 million cable and satellite households.
In Morgantown, C-SPAN can be seen on channel 25, C-SPAN2 on channel 184 and C-SPAN3 on channel 185.
