The classic horror story “Dracula,” comes to life at the Creative Arts Center just in time for Halloween.

Directed by WVU theatre professor Jerry McGonigle, “Dracula” opens Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre. There will be performances Oct. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m., as well as matinee Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.

This “re-vamped” adaptation of the Dracula legend, by American playwright Steven Dietz and also based on the novel by Bram Stoker, promises suspense, screams, and of course – there will be blood. The performance is appropriate for young audiences.

This play, which is notable for its faithfulness to the plot, tone and characters in Stoker’s 1897 novel, chronicles Count Dracula’s journey to England and his stalking of two young women.

Professor Van Helsing and his associates track Dracula back to his castle in the Carpatian Mountains of Transylvania, where he has fled, and attempt to drive a stake into his heart.

The WVU cast of “Dracula” features theatre student Jeff Potts, as Count Dracula; Steven Bell, Greg Jernigan, Jake Brady, Brandon Chowen, Jessika Goldstein, Amy Byrne, Audrey Ahen, Helene Waldermarson and Nicholas Parker.

Scene design is by theatre professor William Winsor, assisted by students Amanda Lawson, Bobby Eure and Isaac Crow. Technical director is theatre professor Steven Neuenschwander, assisted by student Ben Lauer, and costume design is by theatre professor Mary McClung assisted by student Brian Beliel.

Lighting designer is theatre professor Joshua Williamson, assisted by student Dean Wright, and sound design is by theatre professor Alan McEwen and student Will Oxley.
