Six of WVU’s best jazz bands and many student compositions will be showcased at the Jazz Ensembles Concert Monday, Oct. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre of the Creative Arts Center.

The concert will be directed by Paul Scea and Gregory Thurman. According to Scea, who is director of Jazz Studies at WVU, the ensembles will perform styles ranging from experimental to Latin jazz.

The program will feature The Latin Jazz Band performing “What Wedding?” written by WVU student Brandon Lucas and “Favela” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by student Colin Wood; On the Corner performing “When’s the Wedding?” by student Brandon Lucas, and “Cherokee” by Ray Noble, arranged by student Jesse McBee; and The Quintet performing “Touch Her Soft Lips and Part” by William Walton and “Merely Acquaintances” by student Colin Wood.

The Soundpainting Ensemble will perform “Improvisation #104” by the WVU student group Soundpainters; Organ Meat will perform “Battle Cry” by Ryan Kisor and “Song for My Father” by Horace Silver, arranged by Kisor.

And finally, Little Big Band will perform “Air Space” by student Chris Mickel, “Talvez” by student Colin Wood, “Grey” by student Jesse McBee, and the traditional work “Another Glass of Wine,” arranged by student Danny Bain.
