When WVU President James P. Clements gives his first State of the University address Monday, Oct. 12, it will be the culmination of months of listening to the University community.

The speech at 3:15 p.m. at the National Research Center for Coal and Energy on the school’s Evansdale campus, will present the collective vision that has emerged, and lay out some initial steps to get there as WVU prepares to embark on a strategic plan that is both long-term and adaptable.

As preparation for the address, Clements, who took office on June 30, sought input from students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, government representatives and all major stakeholders on the major questions, opportunities and demands of the next decade. He did this through conversations, meetings and visits with individuals and groups on- and off-campus as well as via online feedback.

Some emerging themes have developed, and those will be part of what he presents at the Oct. 12 forum.
The University community and public are invited to attend or watch a webcast at: http://webcast.wvu.edu/

A question and answer session with the audience will follow his remarks.

The regular monthly Faculty Senate meeting will also take place after the president’s address.
