Three new faculty members have joined West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics Accounting Division: Dr. Barbara Apostolou, Dr. Nicholas Apostolou and Dr. Jack Dorminey.

Barbara Apostolou
Dr. Barbara Apostolou is a professor of accounting. She is the author or coauthor of nearly 60 articles and several books, including Sampling for Internal Auditors published by the Institute of Internal Auditors. She currently serves as a member of the editorial board for Journal of Accounting Education, and served for 10 years as editor of the Educational Research Section for Issues in Accounting Education.

Apostolou earned a Ph.D. in accounting from Louisiana State University, and an MBA and BS in accounting from Plymouth State University. She is a Certified Public Accountant. Apostolou’s research interests include understanding how auditors can improve the fraud detection process and the improvement of accounting pedagogy. Her primary teaching interest is auditing, and she has taught an interdisciplinary course on critical analysis and social responsibility.
Nicholas Apostolou
Dr. Nicholas Apostolou is a visiting professor of accounting. He is professor emeritus from Louisiana State University where he was LeGrange Professor of Accounting. At LSU, he was the graduate coordinator in the accounting department for 20 years. He is a member of the Editorial Board of The Forensic Examiner and has published numerous articles in academic and professional journals. In addition, he is the author of several books including Keys to Investing in Options and Futures published by Barron’s Educational Series, Inc. Apostolou’s research interests include current topics in accounting and his teaching focus is financial accounting.
Jack Dorminey
Dr. Jack W. Dorminey is an assistant professor of accounting. Prior to joining the College he was employed with the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in Richmond, VA. During his 20 years at the Federal Reserve he held positions as a bank and holding company inspector, operations analyst, financial manager, and most recently a lead risk analyst. In this latest role, he developed and assisted in the implementation of an Enterprise Risk Management discipline for the Richmond Fed.

Dorminey earned a Ph.D. in business from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MBA and BA in finance from Virginia Tech. His research interests include belief heterogeneity, capital markets and managerial systems. His teaching interests focus on financial accounting and managerial accounting. Dorminey holds membership in the American Accounting Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Beta Gamma Sigma, and is a 2007 AAA-Deloitte/J. Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium Fellow.

Students in the Accounting Division learn the basic educational background necessary for professional certification, including the certified public accountant, certified management accountant and certified internal auditor examinations.
