West Virginia Universitys Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity will hold a bell-ringing ceremony Friday (Aug. 29) in remembrance of eight WVU students who have passed away.

Family, friends and members of the University community will gather at 11:50 a.m. at Oglebay Plaza on WVU s Downtown Campus.

Those being remembered are:

  • Ashley Heatwole, 22, of Romney, a sophomore criminology and investigations major (died Dec. 3, 2007);
  • Craig Lozier, 20, of Cape May Courthouse, N.J., a sophomore management major (died July 21 in a motorcycle accident);
  • George Minwer, 27, of Shadyside, Ohio, a junior general studies major (died April 27);
  • Aaron Sekora, 31, of Greensburg, Pa., a graduate visual arts student (died July 12);
  • William E. Thomas, 19, of Follansbee, a sophomore business and economics major (died June 28);
  • John Wesley Thompson, 20, of Fairmont, a sophomore human nutrition and foods major (died Aug. 2);
  • Michael Dawson Woodard, 20, of Richmond, Va., a freshman criminology and investigations major (died April 26 in a car accident in Monongalia County);
  • and Alexander Cather, 22, of Clarksburg, a junior philosophy major (died Aug. 16).
