A Russian documentary filmmaker will speak Wednesday (April 2) at West Virginia University.

Alexey Denisov will give a lecture from 8-10 p.m. in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair on WVU s Downtown Campus. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Denisov is the director of documentary film studios for Russian TV Channel 2, also known as RTR Planet. RTR Planet is owned and operated by Russian State Television and Media Co., a Russian state-sponsored media holding company.

In the last seven years, Denisov has filmed or produced more than 50 works on Russian history and culture. He filmed a 15-documentary series,USSR: Ten Years After Collapse,on the development and life of the 15 former Soviet republics that became independent states. Denisov also contributed to several programs for the BBC and CNN on the region from 1991-95.

Denisov and his film crew are currently making a documentary on the history of famines in the former Soviet Union. At WVU , they will interview Mark Tauger, associate professor of history in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. Tauger is currently researching and writing a book on famines in Soviet history.
