Student projects and ideas will be in the spotlight when West Virginia University President Mike Garrison hosts the Student Organizations Forum next week.

The forum will take place from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Rhododendron Room, Mountainlair. Representatives from about 20 student organizations are planning to participate and share their service activities and initiatives from this year.

The event will include brief reports from each group, followed by a reception. Garrison will chat with students and provide time for a question-and-answer session.

The WVU Center for Civic Engagement is coordinating the annual forum, which was started six years ago by student leaders. All campus organizations were invited to join the conversation.

Garrison, who was active in many student groups during his undergraduate careerstudent government, Mountain Honorary, Mens Rowing Teamsaid this event is a great way for campus leaders to network and highlight their accomplishments and community outreach.

Student organizations use this opportunity to focus on the tremendous service they have provided to the community during the academic year,said Kimberly Colebank, director of the Center for Civic Engagement.Spotlighted in the past have been organizations that raise awareness of cancer and mental illness; provided �€~street rounds,or medical care to the homeless in Morgantown; planned multicultural, leadership and service activities to benefit the WVU campus, the community and the state; and many others.

Groups scheduled to participate include the Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Pi Beta Phi sorority, Veterans of WVU , Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, Student Health Advisory Board, Community Medicine Student Association, Leadership Studies Student Association, National Exemplary Scholars in Service, Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, Phi Delta Theta fraternity, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Mountaineer Maniacs, Student Government Association, MUSHROOM (Multidisciplinary UnSheltered Homeless Relief Outreach Of Morgantown)/Family Medicine Interest Group, Delta Gamma sorority, Sigma Alpha agricultural sorority, Alpha Epsilon Delta honorary and WVU Colleges Against Cancer.
