Id like to express my special appreciation to our board members who have volunteered to join this committee, and to our three external participants,Garrison said.Dr. Tom Spelsburg of the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Purnell Choppin,President Emeritus of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, are both well known in academic medicine and are members of the Health Sciences National Advisory Council, which has made them familiar with WVU and its missions. Paul Nusbaum is extraordinarily well-informed about West Virginias health care issues and the health care industry, and brings a business perspective that will be important to the search.
Garrison also expressed appreciation to the Health Sciences working group that has been meeting for the past several months. They have made significant progress and reached consensus on some key questions of organization and coordination. Some other issues will be left to the next vice president. While we conduct the search, we will engage the services of R&V Associates of Pittsburgh to provide additional insights and recommendations on how best to structure and finance ourselves as an enterprise.
