On behalf of WVU and the state of West Virginia, I thank Governor Manchin and our leadership for their support of the Bucks for Brains initiative. WVU is ready to fully participate in this program. Our research faculty have already proven that they can compete nationally in several key areas, particularly biosciences, energy, biometrics and nanotechnology. We know from talking with our private and corporate partners that this is the type of plan they are ready and willing to supportand we know that the states $50 million commitment to make this type of investment will attract even more support to our core research programs. Governor Manchins Bucks for Brains program is an inspired approach to the future. It is an economic development program that will leverage public and private resources to prepare West Virginia to transform to a vibrant economy based on a highly skilled and educated workforce. Our leaders have given their support to a program that will have a real and substantial impact on the state for decades to come.
