West Virginia University music faculty member Keith Jackson and members of the WVU Trombone Studio will present a trombone recital Friday (March 7).

The recital begins at 8:15 p.m. in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre of WVU s Creative Arts Center on the Evansdale Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Jackson teaches trombone, euphonium, jazz arranging and chamber music at WVU , where he is also chair of the Division of Music.

Currently, he is lead trombonist with the U.S. Air Jazz Orchestra, a traditional Big Band that performs throughout the United States and Europe. He also performs with the Mountain State Brass Quintet.Jackson and the WVU musicians will also be joined by guest artist John Olsson.

Olsson serves as instructor of trombone at Youngstown State University, artist-in-residence instructor of low brass at Kent State University, and instructor of trombone at Mount Union College.

Olssons appearance is sponsored by the WVU Division of Music and the WVU Trombone and Euphonium Club. He holds a bachelors in music education from Youngstown State Universitys Dana School of Music and a master of fine arts degree in trombone orchestral performance from Carnegie-Mellon University.

He is a featured soloist with the Sounds of Sousa Band and is currently a member of the Canton and Wheeling Symphony Orchestras, the Jazz Heritage Orchestra, the Canton Concert Band and the First Class Big Band.

Olsson has performed with the Cleveland Light Opera; the Cleveland Opera and Ballet Orchestra; the Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra; the Akron, Youngstown and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras; the Akron, Canton and Carnegie Brass Quintets; the Allegheny Summer Music Festival Jazz Ensemble; the Canton Players Guild and Lyric Opera; and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.
