Two West Virginia University Division of Music alumni will present a recital Saturday, Aug. 26, at the Creative Arts Center.

Violinist Daniel Skidmore and pianist Lisa Withers will perform at 8:15 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall as part of the divisions Distinguished Alumni Recital Series.

The program will include works by Bartok, Brahms, Bach and Vierne. The recital is free and open to the public.

Skidmore is concertmaster of the Salisbury Symphony in North Carolina, assistant concertmaster of the Winston-Salem Symphony and a member of the Greensboro Symphony. He teaches violin at Catawba College and is a faculty member of the Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro in the summer. He has also taught at Appalachian State and Frostburg State universities.

He earned a bachelors degree in music from WVU in 1997 and continued his studies at Northwestern University, where he earned a masters degree in 1999. He finished his doctorate last June at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.

Withers is chair of the Music Department at Emory&Henry College and previously served on the faculties of Augustana College in Illinois and Louisiana Tech University.

She has a doctorate in piano performance from WVU and a masters degree in piano pedagogy and performance from the University of Michigan. She earned her bachelors degree in music education and English-Language Arts Education from Alderson-Broaddus. In 1998 she studied at the prestigious French Piano Institute in Paris.
