More than 500 first-year engineering students at West Virginia University will have the opportunity to meet and greet each other, to learn about student organizations within the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources, and to enjoy some free pizza and soft drinks at the Freshman EngineerFEST on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The annual event, which draws several hundred engineering freshmen each year, will take place from 6-8 p.m. in Assembly Rooms A and B at the National Research Center for Coal and Energy on the Evansdale campus.

The EngineerFEST provides an excellent opportunity for freshmen to meet each other and to get involved with organizations that will enrich their college experience,said Robin Hensel, freshman engineering coordinator.

Organizations that will be recruiting members at the event include WVU chapters of Alpha Pi Mu, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Institute of Chemical Engineers, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Association for Computing Machinery, Challenge X and Future Truck, Chi Epsilon, Eta Kappa Nu, Formula Lightning, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Institute of Industrial Engineers , Mini-Baja, National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers, Society of Mining Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, Student Society for the Advancement of Biometrics and Tau Beta Pi.

The event is open to faculty, staff and other students as well.
