West Virginia Universitys Division of Social Work will open this years schedule of professional and community education programs with its popular Nonprofit Management Academy Breakfast Series.
Continuing education credits will be available for social workers and other social service professionals practicing in West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The Nonprofit Management Academy, a program of eight sessions, begins Aug. 31.
All sessions will be from 7:30-9:30 a.m. in the Blackwater Room of the Mountainlair on WVU ’s Downtown Campus.
Each session is approved for two hours of continuing education credits for licensed social workers in the region. Cost is $25 per workshop or $150 for all eight. A $135 early-bird discount is available to all persons who register by Aug. 25. A light breakfast will be included in the registration fee.
Speakers and their topics:
- Aug. 31 John Hazlett, president, First Commitment Corp., boardsmanship, the science of being an effective leader on the governing body of an organization
- Sept. 14 Joe Frontiera and Dan Liedl of the International Center for Performance Excellence. Their topic is dynamic leadership, including a number of tactics that help nonprofit organizations overcome their usual limited resources.
- Sept. 28 Hazlett, nonprofit financials, finance for non-financial managers and volunteers.
- Oct. 12 Jacki Englehardt, coordinator of professional and community education in WVU ’s Division of Social Work, practical public relations and promotion
- Oct. 26 Mindy Walls, director of WVU s Entrepreneurship Center, crafting and delivering a memorable message
- Nov. 9 Melissa Watkins, Steptoe and Johnson, governance of nonprofit organizations
- Nov. 30 Virginia Majewski, chair of the WVU Division of Social Work, on grassroots fund-raising
- Dec. 7 Mohamad Alkadry, WVU associate professor of public administration, practical organizational theory
