If youre looking for a good buy on everyday items and want to help a worthy cause, mark Saturday, May 21, on your calendar.

Thats the day of West Virginia Universitys Blue and Gold Mine Sale to benefit the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties.

From 7 a.m.-2 p.m., bargain hunters can trek through a jungle of furniture, appliances, home entertainment equipment and more inhabiting the concourse of Milan Puskar Stadium.

WVU students donated the items at the end of the spring semester.

The concourse is full of furniture, appliances, clothes, shoes, bedding, rugs, lamps, books, TVs, stereos and computers, to name a few items, said Barbara Angeletti, WVU s recycling coordinator.

United Way volunteers will staff the sale, and all proceeds will go to the charitable organization.

As an added bonus for those who come out, WVU head football coach Rich Rodriguez and head basketball coach John Beilein are scheduled to make guest appearances between 9 a.m. and noon.

The purpose of the sale, Angeletti said, is twofoldto reduce the amount of usable items WVU students leave behind for the garbage and to support the United Way and its many worthwhile programs.

Many members of the WVU and greater Morgantown communities have made the sale possible, Angeletti said.

They include WVU Facilities Management workers and volunteers from the Robert F. Kennedy Federal Correctional Institution, who hauled material to the stadium; WVU Athletics Department, which made the concourse available; the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority, which is providing security and directing parking; North Central West Virginia Landlords Association, which provided T-shirts for volunteers; and WVU administration, which provided both financial and moral support.

All that is left, Angeletti added, is for people in the community to come out Saturday and shop until they drop in support of two worthy causesa cleaner environment and the United Way.
