The java that started the coffeehouse craze in Seattle is now flowing at West Virginia University. The Brewn Gold Café , a cross between the Central Perk and Starbucks, opened its doors this fall at the Evansdale Residential Complex.

We are excited to be partnering with Starbucks, the leading retailer and roaster of specialty coffee, with more than 7,500 retail locations around the world, said Jay Capron, manager of the coffeehouse. A It has been particularly successful on college campuses, and we are delighted to bring the Starbucks brand to WVU .

Students can choose from a variety of specialty drinksincluding espressos, cappuccinos and lattes with Italian flavoring syrupsplus a wide assortment of pastries and confections such as biscotti, croissants, muffins and bagels.

The Brewn Gold draws on current trends in the food service industry, Capron said, offering the convenience offast foodin a fun, contemporary atmosphere. It also has a wide selection of grabn go sub sandwiches, specialty saladssuch as chicken Caesar and Greekand low-carb wraps on its lunch and dinner menu for those on the run.

WVU Facilities Planner Kim Hartsell, who designed the upscale coffeehouse, said its interiors are modeled after a modern café with mostly neutral tones accented by WVU gold and blue. It also features a gold and blue awning, a trademark of Dining Services venues.

We have some neat lighting and fans in here, she said.Other features include neon signs, pictures and WVU memorabilia.

Its a nice place to study and relax,Capron added. While the main purpose of the Brewn Gold is to act as a grabn go outlet for Café Evansdale (the residence hall dining room), our hope is the Evansdale location will attract faculty, staff and members of the community as well.

Brewn Gold hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Fridays. Dining Dollars, Mountie Bounty and Meals Plus debit plans are accepted.
