Fred Wright, a former West Virginia insurance commissioner and West Virginia University professor, will be honored at a banquet Tuesday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Embassy Suites in Charleston.

Wright’s colleagues, friends, former classmates and students will celebrate his many career accomplishments.

Wright joined the WVU College of Business and Economics faculty in 1951 and taught economics, real estate, finance, and risk management and insurance. It is the risk management and insurance courses for which he is so well known to generations of WVU business graduates. His approach to teaching shifted many students’indifference to the subject to a high level of interest and engagement.

In 1985 Wright accepted an appointment as West Virginia insurance commissioner. After five years as commissioner, he returned to WVU , where he continued teaching until his retirement in 1997.

Registration for the banquet is $50 per person. For more information, call Vickie Trickett at 304-293-7804.
