Fire School instructors have suggested five action-oriented learning events for media who want to cover the West Virginia State Fire School this week in Morgantown.

Course-related activities that offer photograph and video opportunities for media coverage are:

  • p. Tuesday (July 22), Thursday (July 24) and Friday (July 25) Civil Support Team Training and Dealing with Weapons of Mass Destruction

  • p. Thursday (July 24) Airport Rescue and Firefighting

  • p. Thursday (July 24) and Friday (July 25) Firefighting I and II, Hazardous Materials Technician, Rapid Intervention Teams (RIT)

Please call Jeff Simpkins, 304-293-2106, or a Fire Service Extension staff member before coming to cover any activity.

Classes are being held at the State Fire Training Center on Monongahela Boulevard, the WVU College of Mineral and Energy Resources (COMER) building on West Virginia Universitys Evansdale Campus, Morgantown Municipal Airport (on a limited basis) and the Holiday Inn.

The annual event teaches the latest fire safety information to full-time and volunteer firefighters, fire service officers, public safety specialists, commercial safety and hazardous materials personnel from around the state. See the West Virginia State Fire School brochure online at http://www.wvu.edu/~exten/depts/foreserv/sfs_documents.htm for more information on courses and instructors from your area.
