Mountaineer Information Express (MIX), West Virginia Universitys student and faculty Web site, will be moving to a new server and receiving an upgrade April 25-27.

As a result, MIX and MIX e-mail will be out of service during that time. All spring information about classes, chats, message boards and email will be migrated over to Campus Pipeline Version 3.2. Email that is received to each account will be queued, saved and restored

The upgrade had been scheduled for mid-February, but because of the Presidents Day snowstorm, delivery was delayed.

“When looking at the schedules for pre-registration, grade posting and final exams, and with summer sessions beginning May 19, we realized that we have to seize the opportunity when it is available,”said Cathy Orndorff, director of WVU Web Services.”STAR, WebCT and the MIX are all integral partners in this upgrade. Systems administrators plan to work around the clock to make the upgrade happen in this small window of time.”

“The new upgrades to the MIX are going to feature and enhance the capabilities of the system,”said WVU Student Government Association President Charlie Battleson.”It will be well worth the relatively short time inconvenienced by the upgrade.”

The following enhancements are available in Version 3.2:

  • Performance Significant performance enhancements will produce faster page renderings.
  • Load The larger SUN 12K server will handle the increasing number of users before fall, when a large freshman class is expected.
  • Upgrades Upgrades in other coordinating software systems such as WebCT and STAR can now take place.
  • New Tab This will give student organizations and student government a prominent position in MIX
  • New Features Changes suggested by students will appear in the upgrade.

Tim Marton, director of Information Systems, is enthusiastic about the upgrade to Version 3.2.

“We at OIT are always working to improve the services available to students, faculty and staff,”Marton said.”To coincide with the planned upgrade of the MIX software, we will also upgrade the host with a faster box. Students and faculty should realize immediate performance improvements.”

Students or faculty with questions about the upgrade can email mix@mail.wvu.edu or call the Help Desk at 293-4444, ext. 1.

“We appreciate everyones patience while the system is down,”Orndorff said.
