A candlelight vigil and several guest speakers will highlight this years”Take Back the Night”activities Thursday, April 10. An awareness march to stop domestic violence and rape will begin at 6 p.m. in front of the Mountainlair.

“Take Back the Night”speakers will start at 7 p.m. on the green of the Mountainlair. Featured speakers include Elizabeth Englehardt from the Center for Womens Studies; Deb Strouse, who will present the facts about rape and domestic violence; Mark Miller from Men Against Rape and Violence; rape prevention specialist Ruth Kershner, who will talk about the art of healing; and domestic violence and rape survivors who will share their stories.

”’Take Back the Night’is the perfect opportunity to bring together students, faculty, families, survivors and the community in an effort to stop rape and domestic violence,”said Crystal Hoover, president of the Female Equality Movement.”My goals are to create awareness within the community and to educate students as well as support victims by creating an event that finds its strength in numbers.”

Following the speakers, the group will light candles and participate in a candlelight vigil down High Street to the Monongalia County Courthouse.

Candles and signs will be provided for all participants.

The event is open to WVU faculty, staff, students and members of the community.
