Jan E. Palmer, M.D., has been named director of the West Virginia University Health Service, which provides medical care to WVU students.

“Dr. Palmer is an excellent physician with many years of experience in meeting the health needs of college students,”said Kenneth D. Gray, vice president for student affairs.

Palmer, a clinical faculty member in the School of Medicine, is board certified in family practice. He specializes in family medicine and gynecology.

“I am glad to accept the position of Director of the University Health Service,”he said.”The Health Service is a vital component of student life at WVU . We provide excellent quality, timely and compassionate care and health education for all WVU students.”

This position is not new to Palmer who has served as interim director for two years. He succeeds Edwin J. Morgan, M.D., who retired in 2001. Dr. Morgan had served as director of UHS since 1973.

“My goal is to continue this same high quality service and improve and modernize the facility as well as expand existing programs,”he said.”We enjoy keeping students healthy, and helping them deal with the stresses of college life and a world at war.”

Palmer has been a physician at WVU since 1980.
