Two West Virginia University faculty members have pledged a $50,000 gift to establish an endowed scholarship in West Virginia Universitys College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.

The gift by Y.V. Ramana and Sumitra Reddy will create an endowment in the colleges Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The endowment will provide funds to recognize an outstanding computer science senior from West Virginia each year through the Reddy Computer Science Merit Scholarship.

“We are grateful for the education we received at West Virginia University and wanted to show our appreciation through this gift,”Ramana Reddy said.

Ramana Reddy is director of the departments Concurrent Engineering Research Center. His wife, Sumitra, is a technical staff member at CERC and a research associate professor in CEMR .

George Trapp, department chairman, said he is grateful to the Reddys for their generosity.

“I am very happy to have this scholarship created because it will help the department attract and retain the best and brightest computer science students,”Dr. Trapp said.

The WVU Foundation, a private non-profit organization, is the designated agency to receive and administer gifts from private individuals and organizations for the benefit of WVU . The Reddysgift has been made as part of the Building Greatness Campaign: West Virginia University, a University-wide initiative to raise $250 million in private support.
