Between competitions, Special Olympians enjoy the games and fun of the Olympic Village, which is getting a little”wild”this year.

Thats because Hovatters Zoo of Kingwood is bringing a host of animalsincluding a baby tiger and a wolfto the Olympic Village, which will be set up near the Shell Building and the West Virginia University Track during the Special Olympics West Virginia Summer Games at WVU June 8-10.

A new 70-foot inflatable obstacle course will also join approximately 30 other games and activities in the Village.

“We want the athletes to have fun while theyre here,”said Kathy Kerzak of Institutional Advancement, the Villages volunteer coordinator.”We want Special Olympics to be a rewarding athletic competition but also a memorable social experience.”

Especially popular with athletes is the non-stop singing and dancing in the karaoke tent.

Refreshment stands are also scattered throughout the Village.

Olympic Village is open from 2-5 p.m. Friday afternoon, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 8-11 a.m. Sunday.

It takes about 60 volunteers at all times to keep the Olympic Village running smoothly, Kerzak noted. To volunteer for the Summer Games, call 1-888-988-2269 or log on tohttp://www.wvu.edu/~instadv/specialolympics/.
