West Virginia University Board of Governors Chair Carolyn Long commended Gov. Joe Manchin on today's (Nov. 17) appointment of Thomas V. Flaherty as a new member of the Board. WVU Hospitals awarded Medal of Honor for organ donation

For the third consecutive year, West Virginia University Hospitals, in conjunction with the Center for Organ Recovery and Education, received a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Medal of Honor for increasing organ donation rates.

Neurosciences research draws $1.1 million

Three new Recovery Act grants will provide more than $1.1 million to the West Virginia University Center for Neurosciences this year, says George Spirou, Ph.D., who leads the organization and is principal investigator on all three grants. The extra funds from National Institutes of Health will allow the center to hire five researchers, support research on the development of cells in the nervous system and strengthen core laboratories.

WVU Student Health to start walk-in flu clinic

Starting Monday, Nov. 9, students seeking medical treatment for flu-like symptoms at West Virginia University Student Health Service will be sent down the hall to a new walk-in flu clinic. The clinic will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in the John E. Jones Conference Center, which is located on the ground floor of the Health Sciences Center. Only students will be treated at the clinic. It is not for WVU faculty or staff.
